4th Seminar at the „Centre for Muslim Women: Zainab bint Yash“ in Granada

Thursday, 04 February 2010 12:13

On 16th and 17th of January 2010, once again seminars were held in the „Centre for Muslim Women: Zainab bint Yash“ on  current issues. While in the last years the topics were around marriage conduct, pregnancy, natural birth giving and education of children, the emphasis this year is on educating ones self and developing virtues.

„Everybody can name some positive qualities which we call virtues and which are appreciated universally. However, we are also recognising that these virtues have almost ceased to be an essential part of the lives of people“ explained one of the organisers of the event.

„But virtues are a universal treasure of mankind that beautifies, enriches and are as beneficial to the individual as to his environment. The meaning of our lives stretches beyond the satisfaction of our needs or simply procreating – man is a social being and thus a member of a community, beginning with his family, his residential quarter, his town and his country.”

“Education has always recognised virtues as goals of character formation. The submission to a discipline or the mastering of different tasks and challenges have no other purpose that to bring forth in man the best of his qualities and thus guarantee harmony and well-being for the individual and the society.”

“Since we all know of this treasure of mankind, and appreciate them, but at the same time recognise their lack in modern life, we are aware that their revival would improve the quality of our lives.”

This being their point of departure, the women who delivered different talks tried to shed light on the importance of different virtues. After a general introduction, talks were delivered on „preserving a good opinion“, „honesty“, „the sensitivity and openness of the heart“, „patience“ and „thankfulness“.

The importance of these different virtues for ones own personal development and as means of enrichment for living social in a community was highlighted with numerous examples from the life of the prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and from personal experiences.

The organisers were particularly pleased with participation of young women and girls at the seminars.
