International Commemoration Programme on account of the 1400th anniversary of the descent of the Noble Qur'an

On 5th September 2010, the IRCICA, the Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Science organised an international conference to commemorate the 1400th anniversary of the descent of the Noble Qur'an. The main speakers of the opening session of the conference were, Dr. Halit Eren, director of the IRCICA, Prof. Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secrtary General of the OIC, the Organisation of Islamic Conference, and the Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey.

 


The conference under the auspices of Prime Minister Erdogan was the beginning of a series of events with the aim of making the Noble Qur'an better known to the world, and in which Muslim countries from the OIC region will be participating.

The conference took place on 5th September 2010 / 26th Ramadan 1431, the day before the Laylatu'l-Qadr, the Night of Divine Power and Decree in which the revelation of the Qur'an began 14 centuries ago.


State ministers, ministers of religious affairs, represantatives of Muslim communities from Europe, Russia and Africa were among the invited guests. The EMU Foundation was represented by its Honorary President, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Yalcintas, who gave the closing speech and summary at the end of the second session of the conference, where suggestions for events for the coming year were presented. Further representatives from the EMU were Abu Bakr Rieger, President of the Foundation, Malik Sezgin, Secretary General and Nevzat Gökalp, EMU Secretary for Turkey and PA of Prof. Dr. Yalcintas.

The activities during 20101/2011 will be aimed at informing about the significance of the Noble Qur'an, the person and character of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, the religion of Islam and Muslim civilisation, the cultures and arts within this civilisation, its terminology, principles, and its historic and contemporary development.
