BURA, the Boğaziçi University Reunion Association

The Boğazici University Reunion Association (BURA) based in Istanbul, Turkey, joined the European Muslim Union in 2006.

The BURA is a non-governmental and non-profit organization founded by graduates of the Boğaziçi University, Istanbul, Turkey, on 20th October 2003.

The main objective of the BURA is to organize social, cultural, sportive, professional, personal, ethical, and scientific activities for the graduates and students of the Boğaziçi University and to provide a platform for sharing experiences and exchanging good practices at national and international levels.

There are a number of committees in the BURA, meeting regularly and who aim at enhancing the development of the civil society and to demonstrate youth participation in the society and the promotion of the exchange of ideas and experiences, mutual understanding, and equal rights and opportunities among people.

Some of these committees are:

Foreign affairs commission with a EU youth project group and a translation group
Social activities commission
Institutional relations commission
Human resources commission
Press & public relations commission
Project commission
Internal organizations commission
Budget and financial affairs commission

 

In accordance with the above stated aims, the main activities of the BURA are:

* Organization of training, workshops, meetings, seminars, debates, conferences, campaigns with the primary goal of supporting the development of civil society and involvement of the youth in the above processes.

* Regional and international cooperation with non-governmental organizations dealing with the same and/or similar issues and working together on problem solving issues which have essential importance for the respective region.


There have been several joint activities between the EMU and the BURA in the past years. For example, the BURA has been one of the hosts in summer 2004 when a group of around 20 young Muslim men from Spain, Germany and England visited Turkey on invitation from Prof. Dr. Yalcintas, the Honorary President of the EMU (see: http://www.bura.org.tr/haberler/haberoku.asp?hid=115 ). This year, members of the BURA visited the Spanish Muslim Community and were hosted by EMU representatives in Spain during their visit to Granada, Cordoba and Seville (see: http://www.emunion.org/?action=artikel&id=54 ).

The BURA and the EMU will be organising joint eventsin the future, with particular emphasis on the Youth and Student Exchange programmes throughout Europe.
